Great summary of different cultures

It is imperative that health care professionals understand the importance of being culturally competent to provide appropriate holistic care. This book provides a great overview of the major cultures we see in the country and provides a good perspective of how patients feel and see health. To be good advocates for our patients we must know how to approach them and respect their beliefs.

A very, very broad overview. I had to buy it for a class. Would never have bought it on my own. I have a degree in Anthropology, I personally would go with Peter Burke in examining the meaning of culture and Michel Foucault for the nuances of the health care system.

Outstanding resource for sales planning in a SaaS business

The pace and pressure to grow quickly in a SaaS environment makes it difficult to put the appropriate foundations in place to have a sales organization that is ready to scale. This book provided me with great frameworks that will save me a lot of time in creating growth plans for my sales team. The content covers a breadth of topics starting from mapping the customer journey all the way through some insight into setting up a sales operations function.

I look forward to using several of the blueprints directly with my team and colleagues in marketing. It would be great if their were digital templates to use so that we could move the drawings from the whiteboard to a sharable format more easily.

The price for a sales book was higher than I'm used to. That being said, I think the ROI on this purchase is a no brainer if you're in a SaaS business. All of the material is organized in a manner to get you the information you need in very little time. You'd pay a consultant a ton of money to get you this information. Lastly, it is a beautiful book, so I can imagine that the production costs are very high. This book can stay out on the table without my wife complaining that I left my work out again!

If you are in the SaaS business and have not read this book, then you are leaving significant recurring revenue on the table.

Pros:
- First of all this book is visually stunning. This is a piece that stands out and will drive curiosity among any team member who sees it.
- This book operationalizes industry best practices for launching and scaling a SaaS sales team.
- I have not seen such a well "designed" approach in the industry. Each blueprint explains how the "as a Service" sales model works.
- To give you an idea of how detailed this is... it even contains a floor plan for a sales organization.
- Each chapter produces a number of opportunities to evaluate your organization against best in class and identify ways to improve.
- It is best suited for sales executives, sales ops, inside sales, and customer success. If you are one of them, grab your highlighter and start reading.
- Many use-cases, and no vendor promotions. Clearly the authors went out of their way to keep it academic. Bravo.

Cons:
- The book applies mostly to B2B, as a Service sales organization, and primarily SaaS.
- It contains a lot terminology. Thankfully they put the abbreviations in the front.
- This book is BIG and HEAVY, due to the detailed blueprints. It may sit well on your desk, but is not a book to take on an airplane.

Note:
- This book is pricey, but I have to say once you get it in the mail, you'll understand. This was clearly put together by people who are passionate about what they do.

I've collected quite a few of these, so far, including Thea Stilton and the Star Castaways. I was very attracted to this book, because of the cover, showing the characters in zero gravity. Really cool, to be sure. Often, I read the books I collect for the kids, cover to cover, and this is one that I have read.

I know this sounds idiotic, because I am well into adulthood, but I had a little bit of trouble following the sequencing of this book. It seemed to me that somewhere into it, there was a little repetition, but that doesn't matter a whole lot.

Overall, I rate this book extrememly high, for several reasons.

1)One of these reasons is simply that any kid would love it, absolutely love it, because it's cool beyond imagination--a kid would want to read, and keep reading. It makes a person feel good, plain and simple.

2)Another thing is, there are facts in this book, like the one about using hydrogen as an energy source, that are very educational. There is also information about going up in a jet, to reproduce a lack of gravity--just as NASA does, in reality. Other facts, too. Good for stretching young minds.

3)But, the greatest reason I recommend this book for kids, and enjoyed it myself, is that the colorful illustrations of space are more than awesome. The illustrations are realistic, and nearly inspirational, and the book as a whole is really good, too.

good philosophical discussion of nationality

This book contains a good discussion of nationality and its consequences for our daily lives. Miller discusses different philosophical positions on nationality, namely ethical universalism vs. ethical particularism and conservative nationalism vs. liberal nationalism. He believes that nationality can serve many constructive purposes, including keeping us together as an (imagined) community plus giving a basis for trust within a state. Miller recognizes the problems inherent in nationality - for instance the never-ending problems of supporting national self-determination as a doctrine - although he claims that nationality and nationalism are not equivalent. He argues that we should make nationality as non-ethnic as possible to include all members of the nation.
Miller does falter when it comes to the ethics of nationality in international relations, claiming that we should sponsor a 'friendly rivalry' between nations and help other nations help themselves without realizing how such a position can lead towards violating his belief in the inherent right for all nations to exist. At the end of the book he also supports the right of a state to offer protection to its national culture to prevent the McDonaldization of the world's cultures, something that can end up being quite illiberal in response to something many authors (like Anthony Smith) believe has been blown out of proportion. Nonetheless this book is quite generally quite convicing and is thus valuable reading for students of political theory and nationalism alike.

The book is simple to read, which is what I like most about it. It gives an overall view of the components of a mechatronic system. However, the reader would probably need another text to go into actual design and implementation. For starters, this text is good, especially for students.

A Great Book for the Practicing Astrologer

As a professional astrologer, I was excited and impressed with Using Astrology to Create a Vocational Profile. There are two themes in the book, interwoven into a cohesive narrative. As you would expect, one is about astrology and vocation. With this theme, the author goes far past the simple associations that often make up vocational astrology ("you have Pisces on the midheaven, so you should work in an oil refinery or be a make-up artist"), and really explores the deeper meaning of vocation and how it relates to the chart - and client - as a whole.

The second theme is about how to structure the consultation process. This is something that astrologers say little about, and they tend to work off of the single-session "reading" model - a client comes once, and then perhaps comes back for a follow-up every year or six months. There are clearly problems with that model, which most astrologers would recognize: information overload; one-way communication, astrologer to client; and so on. In this book, Faye Cossar offers a different approach that is not only appropriate for vocational astrology, but which could be adapted for other areas. Best of all, like the book itself, the consultation process she suggests is modular - you don't need to apply all of it with every client.

This book gave me a lot to think about on several levels, a real rarity among astrology books. The author's ideas about structuring the consultation are worth the price of the book even if you aren't interested in doing vocational astrology, but odds are you'll find that vocation is an exciting possibility for your work as an astrologer after reading it. I highly recommend Using Astrology to Create a Vocational Profile.

Excellent practical approach to Astrology and Vocation for anyone who would like a greater understanding of their true Vocation

In her first book astrologer, teacher and founder of the Amsterdam School of Astrology, Faye Cossar, has combined her extensive business and career advisory experience with her astrological skills. The result is an innovative practical and creative book presenting a skillful model of Vocational Astrology which is based on a framework initially created by Career Advisors. This very efficient and effective approach starts with a `non-astrological model - the vocational profile' based on `the idea of defining vocation and putting the client at the centre' rather than starting with the chart. One of many advantages, according to the author, is that it can offer clients `a concrete and tangible product'.

The model is based on three core questions: `Who am I, What can I do, What do I want' with the content of the book clearly addressing how to work with each question. In chapter 2 Faye helpfully outlines ways in which the material can be most easily used for different vocational issues raised by clients depending on their specific needs at the time.

Starting with an astrological interpretation of the clients biography, the author deftly guides us through the subheadings under each of the three core questions skillfully creating a vocational profile that most suits the core self of each client. This for example, includes pertinent questions to ask clients to support them in fully inhabiting the essence of different aspects of their chart. Although multiple famous people are mentioned, Faye focuses throughout the book on an individual client case study which really helps to bring the material alive. A particularly useful section is the one on clarifying/defining blocks making it clear that the task at hand for us as astrologers is to define the blocks and not to work with them. As well as offering us an excellent model which is immediately and easily applicable, this book offers some helpful practical reminders including that the client is the expert on their own vocation and that is often more productive for them if we encourage them to engage more with the tasks at hand rather than doing the work for them. We are also reminded that many clients would often like more than one session with us if they knew that this was available and what it would entail.

This excellent book is ideal for astrologers at all levels of learning who are interested in applying astrological skills to the task of assisting clients to discover and enhance their vocation for the purpose of feeling fulfilled and living a life that is true to who they are.

career coaching with a special touch

I have met Faye at her home in Amsterdam while she was trying to teach me the ways of astrology for business. That part is still a work in process, but with a background in Human Resource Management I could not resist to buy her book on career coaching and astrology. The book is easy to read, also for those not so fluent in astrology. But it does give you, career coach, some extra information. It gives you just that bit of extra that makes you a better coach, but your client for sure a happy client. When I first learned about astrology I had just finished an accreditation course on one of the big five personality profiles. I was surprised to see how similar the two were. I have not stopped reading about astrology ever since. Not being a professional astrologer, but with a big interest in the field, I have found that Faye's book is a must read for all interested in career coaching or astrology!

About the Author
Kevin J. Anderson has authored over forty bestsellers. He has written spin-off novels for Star Wars, StarCraft, Titan A.E., and The X-Files, and with Brian Herbert is the co-author of the Dune prequels. His original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series and the Nebula Award-nominated Assemblers of Infinity. He has also written several comic books including the Dark Horse Star Wars collection Tales of the Jedi written in collaboration with Tom Veitch, Predator titles (also for Dark Horse), and X-Files titles for Topps. Some of Anderson's superhero novels include Enemies & Allies, about the first meeting of Batman and Superman, and The Last Days of Krypton. Diminishing Returns

This is the third incarnation of Clockwork Angels. First there was the Rush album, then the novel by Kevin J. Anderson, and now this, with illustrations by Nick Robles. I think the album is tremendous, and the novel was a lot of fun, especially given all the Rush easter eggs throughout. The graphic novel, however, suffers in comparison, and the reason is clear: The story simply is not strong enough, and this format exposes those weaknesses.

For an album, the story can meander and have weak points, as lyrics often have their own logic, and the bass, drums, and guitar add layers all their own. The music itself provides depth where the narrative may be lacking. In the prose novel, Anderson and Peart clearly had a ball fleshing out the story and playing in the steampunk world Peart had originally envisioned. Even if the story is a bit childish, the sense that the authors were treating the fans to something special really came through.

In the graphic novel, though, the story is asked to hold up with minimal dialogue, so there's a return to the basic lyrics of the album, and the art just cannot hide the faults the way the music did on the album. To be fair, the art is quite good. Robles does an admirable job showing the characters and especially the scenery of this world. The story itself is what gets clunky, and this version just can't recover. The authors declare that they are already at work on a sequel, and I wonder if it will be better when freed from the constraints of matching an existing album and novel. If they can create a story with rhythms that go better with the graphic novel format, I'd certainly be happy to see it. As it stands, though, the best way to experience this story is with the original Rush album.

A very beautifully illustrated version of Peart and Anderson's steampunk universe

A very beautifully illustrated version of Peart and Anderson's steampunk universe. The pacing is very well done and the characters are consistent throughout the entirety of the novel in appearance and character. A perfect companion piece to the very powerful concept album.

Good art, but all too truncated

The biggest pro: Really enjoy the warm sense the pictures give you, e.g. glow of street lights, fires. Adds a good deal of depth.

The cons: The storylines are so abbreviated that it removes much of the tension that builds up over time in the book. Also, the character development (& relationships among characters) suffers from this truncation of their stories. So much of this would have been overcome by simply going from 6 to 10 or 12 "comic books".

While I noted the biggest pro is the art, it's also a con in that most of the frames / boxes are very simple. Example: the box is so zoomed in on 1 or 2 people, there's little detail of the context they are in.

The cons are so strong here that if Clockwork Lives gets a similar 6 comic book treatment (vs. something more extensive), I'm going to pass.
