But whatever has come my way, however the weight of circumstances has bowed me down and tried to obliterate my spark, I have refused to give up. I keep climbing back to my feet, even when people tell me it's literally impossible to do so. I have refused to give up hope. I have refused to accept the ending I was written, but have changed it, against all the odds. I don't say this to boast, but in the hope that I can inspire others to do the same; or at the very least, to know it's possible, no matter what trials they've undergone, or are currently suffering. The human spirit truly is unbreakable, if you're determined to keep stepping forward, learning from your mistakes, refusing to let despair hinder you. Take it from me: I've been there, and made it through the fire; not unchanged, but forged into something new and stronger.

No matter how broken you may be in body, reputation, or spirit, you'll never fail as long as you refuse to give up. We've all heard this before—so often, perhaps, that it's become trite in most of our minds. But I've learned this lesson the hard way. I invite you to relearn it with me.

A fantastic real life story about one man's struggle and courage to overcome the most challenging of circumtances

I started reading this book and literally couldn't stop until I finished. An emotional read and a true story that highlights the fact that mind is a very powerful tool and if used to it's full potential - 'anything is possible'.

I know this guy personally and I know about the journey he's been on but to have the opportunity to read his 'blow by blow' account of how he managed to find the inner strength and courage to survive and overcome adversity; make this book even more special - it will appeal to anybody who is currently facing challenging times - I recommend that you read this - it may just be the motivation that you need!

The events overcome in this book would have defeated action movie heroes. A great read and one of those rare books I genuinely couldn't put down. A steal at twice the price, if you're on the fence just buy it, you won't regret it!

Gambling can be traced to the very origins of human civilization. It is pervasive within all recorded cultures. So are the attempts to control it, regulate it, and even prohibit it. The opposition to gambling has as its roots religious or "morality" based arguments. One of the ironies of modern American life is that Utah, a state which absolutely bans all forms of gambling, leads the country in the volume of online gaming. Another irony is that the state of Nevada, and a number of formerly impoverished reservation-restricted Native American tribes, are able to achieve a significant measure of economic prosperity by the legalization of gambling and the construction of gambling casinos. Great Resource...More of a Philosophy Than a Curriculum, but a Philosophy Worth Reading

We've been homeschooling for about 10 years now, and I've hated just about every literature program we've come across. We've tried them all...K12, Sonlight, Glencoe's school-based curriculum, The Well-Trained Mind, and Excellence in Literature. All of these programs left me cold, and left my children rather indifferent (at best). My son said in conversation recently, "I hate poetry." He said it casually, as if it was just a comment made in passing, with not much meaning. It hit me, though, quite hard, that in those few words, he was communicating that the literature programs we'd been using were clearly not having the intended outcome. I love literature, and I want my kids to love it too, and the bottom line for me is that I'd rather them love reading good books (and enjoy good poetry) than be "competent students of literature" according to the Core Knowledge powers that be. I decided, after reading the 8th grade Excellence in Literature course book, that I liked the idea of simply reading one great classic work after the next, without all the silly "trivia questions" that seem to accompany most programs. At the end of the book, though, a rather sophisticated analysis was required, as detailed by a paragraph-long writing prompt. I knew my son wouldn't be able to handle these assignments, at least not any time soon, and being faced with them would once again crush his enjoyment of reading. I decided at once to chuck the program, keeping only the reading lists as a reference. I liked the book lists in Excellence in Literature, but I didn't like the inflexibility. My son doesn't want to read Jane Eyre, and he hated the first chapters of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - I realized I'd need to find some other options. Enter The Reader's Odyssey. I came upon this book quite by accident, just as I was formulating in my mind the plan we needed to pursue for the rest of our literature studies. It seemed like the perfect guide for me - someone had actually done all the legwork I was about to do!

Well, I just received the book a few hours ago, and I've already finished reading it. It was exactly what I was looking for. The first half is basically research based "motivation" for using this sort of program. I was already sold on this philosophy, but some educators may need that extra push to take the plunge into this rather unique approach to literature. The remainder of the book consists of excellent reading lists, as well as templates for learning contracts, reading logs, book summaries, and other tools students can use as they grow throughout the program from simple paragraph-long summaries to full-on literary analysis pieces. I will be cutting this book up so I can make lots of copies (I wish this was available for Kindle, so that I could print without destroying my book).

I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase - it's exactly what we need. That being said, it's not for everyone. It doesn't have the traditional "answer keys" and detailed assignments most homeschool families are accustomed to. If you're scared of literature, or if you are the type of parent who needs objective items to grade, and things to check off, this will not suit you. If you're looking for detailed, year-by-year guidelines and book lists, you really won't find that either. What you WILL find is an approach that puts major trust in you, and in your students, and which gives children the freedom to learn and grow, led by their own interests and strengths. If that's good enough, and if you don't need all the busy work "bells and whistles" of comprehension quizzes, vocabulary lists, and book reports, then I highly recommend this book.

On second thought, I take that back - even if you DO need all those other things, buy this book anyway. It's an inexpensive addition to your homeschool library, and the information it contains will be useful to you no matter what literature program you are using. Homeschooling is about the freedom of adapting programs to fit your family's needs, and this book can go a long way to assisting with that, no matter what your style.

A true fan!

I have all 3 of Mrs. Luchsinger's English books and am a true fan of her work! We started homeschooling this past year as my daughter entered high school. These practical resources have encouraged both my daughter and myself; English is now a journey and a joy rather than some sort of stressful destination.

In the Reader's Odyssey, Mrs. Luchsinger describes a high school literature course that strives to develop reading breadth and depth based on the individual student learner; where they grow and mature year to year. As parent teachers we come along side our child and foster a desire to learn based on who they were created to be. I feel incredibly fortunate to have this resource at my disposal as my daughter and I explore the seemingly endless possiblilities in literature.

An excellent, excellent resource! The guidance and appendices are helpful and supportive throughout the book. Thank you for developing this!

a must have resource for literature based schooling

This book is a how to guide for developing a literature program for avid readers and reluctant readers. It's a short read with very practical points backed by evidence and supported with instructions on how to make it work for different personalities. It can be used to add literature across the curriculum or just for an English or literature course. It includes sample worksheets for the student to write a book summary (the worksheet is set up like a mad libs), also there are worksheets to help the student analyze works of literature based on character development, plot, point of view, and setting. The author also provides a reading list based on progressing levels of difficulty and also gives great guidance on how to set up a home library based on these levels. The author feels strongly about a home library (which requires a considerable investment if you are starting from scratch; however, she does list places to purchase the books at a savings). You can use the author's suggestions while gradually building a library. It is definitely worth the purchase.

Allison Travers, has done nothing but salivate and dream about two men- shocked and aroused. She has to tamp down the lust. The fact that a horrible man wants to crush her hopes, it's just not an option. Allison has to also fend off the unwanted advances of Mr. Matthews. She will find running isn't the answer either. Quinn and Porter have seen and they are on the same page. They only want to make her theirs forever. The fact that one man has her running scared only makes them work that much harder. To make her their Christmas bride! Vanessa Vale has gold in this holiday treasure. Would definitely recommend Bridgewater m�nage to anyone looking for sexy, decadent reading!

Allison Travers a Bridgewater Ranch man's opps I mean Men's Christmas wish come true.....

Not a super Christmasy story so if you aren't into a little season cheer with your hot cowboys....don't be put off by his short hot story. It is snowing and they do unwrap a present. Allison Travers not only finds both Mr. Quinn and Mr. Porter attractive..... She pictures them both when she is alone in her attic bedroom. She is being treate to marry Mr. Matthews, the man spreading rumors that were so not true.... however, she only wants Quinn and Porter.......she is a Bridgewater Ranch Man's, opps I mean Men's dream. She finds herself running away and then found by Quinn and Porter and the Sherriff and they haul her to jail!

Too Short

This book was picked for me in a pick it for me challenge. This was a short quick read that was ok and that I wish was longer. This was book five in this series. Allison Travers is in love with two men Quinn and Porter. Allison has rejected all of the advances of an unwanted suitor Mr. Matthews. But he is not happy in the slightest about this and he spreads some nasty rumors around town about her. When Allison hears of this she is so upset and to avoid any and all embarrassment, she decides she has to leave town so she boards the stage coach on her way to a new life. But when Quinn and Porter hear of Allison being pushed out of town, they are so angry, they know they will do everything to keep her hear as there's so they will finally make their move After two long years of waiting, and courting her slowly, they have to the bull by the horns and make her their bride. Although I liked this book I felt that it moved way too fast. The book was well written with no errors in spelling or grammar. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

author is well written but HATED the plot

I'm giving this 3 stars for the fact it was well edited and the dialog and writing was well done in the fact it flowed. I liked the setting and the characters.

*spoiler alert*
But I absolutely HATED the plot. Really...really hated it. I really enjoy well written m/m/f menages so don't get me wrong but the only reason our heroine was with both her bosses was over a misunderstanding. It was obvious she was only slept with Cole because she wanted Des so bad the entire time and it was the only way to be with him. She never wanted to be with Cole and the only reason it was hot for her was because Des was there. She finally can't stand it anymore and calls it to a halt before ending up FINALLY with Des.

And the thing that really really annoyed me the most was that she never told Des that she knew it was HIS shirt she was smelling and not Coles, which is what started the whole misunderstanding in the first place. In fact that whole misunderstanding was one of the most ridiculous I've ever read in any book to set up a conflict.

Spicy Christmas novella!

In this erotic Christmas story, Wendy and Des have both shared an unrequited lust for each other for several months, but not acted upon it to maintain their professional relationship. When Wendy is caught with the proverbial "hand in her cookie jar" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) by Des during a late night office party, it's his chance to take things further, and add his trusty co-worker Cole into the mix. This was definitely a spicy read! Though it starts out with a menage situation, in truth Des and Wendy have stronger feelings for each other than just wanting a sexual relationship and it makes for a very special Christmas for them. It was a quick, fun read and will definitely light your candle! 4 stars.

Very Different! But in a good way. This is definitely not your typical story line - but you won't be disappointed if you like hot, steamy and erotic and don't mind menage and a little MM action!
