Rutley's elements of mineralogy has been around for a long time, certainly throughout my own lifetime; and if my great grandfather had read geology, it would have been prescribed reading for him too! It has been rewritten and revised frequently since fir~t conceived by Frank Rutley in the late 19th century. Major revisions occurred in 1902, and then in 1914, when H. H. Read first took over the authorship, and thereafter in 1936 and in 1965 when the last major changes occurred. It was with some trepidation that I agreed to attempt this revision. I had been asked to do it by Janet Watson in 1979, but various commitments delayed my start on it until 1984. This 27th edition encompasses a number of changes. Chapters 1-5 have the same headings as before, but considerable changes have been made in all of them, particularly 1, 3, 4 and 5. Comments sought prior to the revision revealed considerable disagreement about the role of blowpipe analyses in the book. I have only once had blowpipe analyses demon� strated to me, and have never used them; but there is no doubt that they are employed in many countries, and many of the tests (flame colour, bead, etc. ) are still useful as rapid indicators of which element is present in a mineral. I have therefore kept blowpipe analysis information in Rutley, but have relegated it to an appendix.

From a broad historical review, through John Wesley's understanding and with fresh applicability in the contemporary context, this is sure to be a landmark book for Wesleyans and Christians in the American Holiness traditions, as well as a valuable resources for seminarians.

A responsible treatment of a difficult subject

So much of popular christian theology is a mile wide but only an inch deep. Dr. Noble's treatment of Christian Perfection as related to the Holy Trinity is a deep treatment of an often misunderstood biblical concept. I appreciate his ability to both clear up the misconceptions of Christian Perfection while anchoring the doctrine soundly in the heart of Christian Theology - the Triune God.

This is a major work that clearly represents Wesley's pastoral theology accurately and puts it in the context of Scripture, Experience, Reason and Tradition. A great guide to help improve your eyesight

'How To Improve Your Vision Naturally' is a comprehensive guide to improving your eyesight. Nick Stanton shows many simple ways to relax your eyes, improve your focus, and lessen the damage on your eyes on an everyday basis.

Some of the things covered also include how to curb negative habits that will improve your sight, healthy adjustments to your diet and improving your blood circulation. Also explained is what happens to your eyes as you age and certain drugs that can damage your vision.

This is a great self-help book for anyone wanting to naturally and safely improve their vision, and is handy to help identify any eyesight problems that they currently have.

Great exercises

This book went into great detail on the different eye sight problems, explaining what they are, the symptoms, and so forth. I have blurry vision sometimes and refuse to get glasses. So this book is very helpful to me so that I will never have to. I really liked all of the exercises and plan on doing them as often as time will allow. I did notice immediate eye relief after trying a couple of them. The book also talks about diet and what foods are good and which are bad for your eye sight. It has juicer recipes as well. If you have eye problems (and who doesn't) then I recommend this book to you.

Interesting Ideas to Restore Eyesight

I've had terrible eyesight since I was in high school. I'm near-sighted and I've always wished that I didn't need to wear glasses. It's almost impossible for me to enjoy waterparks because I always worry about my glasses falling off and getting lost (which has happened before!) I've used contacts as well but after a while they severely irritate my eyes. Then I've considered Lasik eye surgery, but that's quite expensive and I've heard many bad stories about vision getting even worse after the surgery. This book has some excellent ideas and exercises you can use to try to restore your vision naturally. It also suggest certain types of foods that will also help. I was a bit surprised to read that eating carrots to improve your eyesight is actually a myth! I always remember my mom telling me that one.

While I can't guarantee that everything in this book will work, at least it's a good first step for anyone who finally wants to rid themselves of their glasses without going to extremes.

About the Author
About the authors-- Finn Jensen is an independent consultant in reliability engineering. He received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1962 and his Ph.D. in 1970 from the Technical University of Denmark. He has been concerned with practical reliability engineering and research since the early 1970s, forming his own company in 1973. As reliability adviser he has conducted numerous reliability short courses in industry and has published and presented papers at many national and international conferences. Niels Erik Petersen graduated from the Engineering Academy of Denmark in 1976 and specializes in electromechanical engineering. Mr Petersen worked extensively on reliability problems, especially burn-in techniques, before taking up his present position as Development Engineer within a Danish company specializing in heavy industrial machinery.

Excellent Reliability Resource.

"Burn-in" by Finn Jensen and Niels Erik Petersen. Sub-titled: "An Engineering Approach To The Design And Analysis Of Burn-in Procedures". John Wiley & Sons, 1986.
The main purpose of this book is to provide an organized approach to the development and implementation of a burn-in program. This book does give you the basics in developing burn-in, that is the application of elevated temperature to cause latent defects to fail at the manufacturing plant rather than to have the unit fail during use by the Customer. The book, however, is truly a rather complete text in reliability, dealing with the three stages of a product: infant mortality, useful life and wear out.
I have used this book over the past decade or so, and taken portions of the text for proposals, when a project was just beginning, and, at the other end, used the text for Weibull functions to ascertain the end-of-life of a product. It is an excellent book, describing reliability principles far more clearly than some other fundamental texts.
I received this book at a burn-in seminar taught by Dr. Finn Jensen. Dr. Jensen is a slight, bubbly man, whose English is impeccable. At the seminar, he fleshed out the examples in the book with details and anecdotes showing that the book, "Burn-In", is grounded on a wealth of real-life experience. If you buy one book on burn-in, or on reliability, this is the one.

A no-nonsense approach

This book emphasizes a no-nonsense approach to burn in and is suitable for the experienced engineer who is faced with difficult questions about test and reliability. It is fast paced and avoids excessive advanced statistical analysis to achive an engineering result that is adequate 90% of the time.
First time users of burnin technology will want to familiarize themselves with the statistics of failure analysis before advancing onto a burn-in plan.
The book may also appeal to senior manufacturing line personnel who have witnessed first hand experiences in burn-in and wish to pursue further the cause and effect relationship. Using the methodologies outlined within, production line resources can be maximized for yield and quality.
The read is enjoyable and refreshing - without sidetracking - It dives right into the topic at hand and plows through to a solution and implementation plan.
