In the first step, On Disciplining the Soul, which cites copious anecdotes from the Islamic scriptures and biographies of the saints, Ghazali explains how to acquire good character traits, and goes on to describe how the sickness of the heart may be cured. In the second part, Breaking the Two Desires, he focusses on the question of gluttony and sexual desire, concluding, in the words of the Prophet, that 'the best of all matters is the middle way'.

About the Author
Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (1058-1111) theologian, logician, jurist and mystic, was born and died at the town of Tus in Central Asia, but spent much of his life lecturing at Baghdad or leading the life of a wandering dervish. Because of his success in revealing the compatibility of the outward forms of religion with the inner experiences of Sufi tradition, he is commonly regarded as the 'Renewer' of the fifth Muslim century, and the most influential thinker of medieval Islam.

Life changing

I came across Al Ghazali's name by reading another book on Sufism. This is my first book I read from him and so far I am greatly impressed. As a Christian and spiritual searcher I have the theoretical aspects of my religion well established but I always fell short in the practical aspect of it. I don't mean the going to church or going through the empty rituals, I mean the nitty gritty spiritual work and closeness to God. Al Ghazali, peace be on him, has changed all that. This book has made me drastically change little by little my orientation in life towards what is important, the worship of God in a direct, singleminded devotion. He not only helps you find the hidden treasure in the field but impels you to " sell everything" so you can buy the field and acquire the treasure. His words hit you hard especially if they are accepted with humility and not with a mind ready to find faults in his teachings. He helps you move from the intellectual level of your religion, whichever it might be, to the true meaning of religion, a life lived "in" God and "through" God. This book, although written by a Sufi master, and although it expounds Islam, will bring a luminous clarity to any Christian serious enough in their search for God. It's really a jewel and I cannot recommend it enough. If you are a Muslim this book is a most have in your library. Praise and thanks to God for bringing this book to my life!

Was expecting a new book.

2 Stars for the condition of the book. I paid for a brand new book yet what arrived in the mail was a paperback with the front cover bent from the top; easily noticeable with a crease going across the front end to end.

Another thing I noticed right off the bat was the text of the book, it's not as crisp as other books ITS has published.

As for the content, I'm sure anything from the Al-Ghazali series is great as I have other books.

I loved the book. It was delivered on time and in excellent condition. THe price was great and will order more book in the future. I will definitely recommend this book to others due to its dire need in these time. We are going through changes that are sometime difficult to cope and adjust to . THis book gives you ways to tend to your spiritual side in order to overcome the obstacles that come your way.

A handy reference

I minored in Latin in college, and while I owned a more comprehensive grammar, this was the one I always kept with me when reading. Often the brief explanation in this book was just the little reminder I needed to get back on track. The title is accurate; it gives the essentials, well organized & easy to find.

Latin Refresher

This book is very good, but only to those who already have a firm grasp of Latin. Once you've been around the block a few times you can use this book to quickly refresh anything you may have forgotten or anything strange you may encounter.

I particularly like the way he endeavors to break things down into tabular rules. Although sometimes daunting, they do serve well. An example is how he circumvents those annoying i-stem nouns by listing third declension nouns in five categories.

Boss pissed me off, so i sought help

I quite literally purchased this book because my boss was pissing me off at work and I was afraid that I was going to lose my cool and go off on him. This isn't a subject that is taught in school, so it's something most of us have to acquire and learn at some point during our professional lives. This book is outstanding and helping you grasp​ the principals of emotional intelligence and put them into play in the workplace.

Great How-To on a Difficult Subject

The attention to "emotional intelligence" started with Daniel Goleman's book "Emotional Intelligence" published in 1995. Although an excellent book, this Weisinger book is a better guide to how to USE emotional intelligence. It is full of practical exercises and real world examples. I have used it when I teach the subject and would recommend it if you really want to change and learn new responses when the going gets tough, not just think about it. Best wishes to all who are trying to develop these difficult skills. It ain't easy, but this book makes it easier. A good guide.

I was required to read this book for a college level course. As a manager, I often told employees to leave their baggage or drama at the door, but they didn't often listen. This book is well presented with doable exercises to enhance your emotional intelligence. The author also uses humor at some parts which makes it relatable.

WOW "What a ride"

Wow. What a ride. Read this book in a afternoon, could not put it down. Derek and Lane are both vulnerable in different ways but together have the strength to take on the problems that family and the world just keep throwing at them. This book has both dark and light moments that tug at your heart and keep you pulling for their happy ever after.

Good, if you like 'puppy play'...

Darn. I enjoy both these authors individually, so I had high hopes for this one. It was just okay for me, though.

The D/s felt awkward at best and I never felt much attachment with the MCs. I did enjoy the stray pups, though. The 'puppy' play just didn't work for me. Oh well. To each their own, right?

Bring on the tissues!

The sins of the father pass onto the son at least that is what it seems to be like in Lane's case. With his parents having defrauded millions of dollars out of people, now it seems that everyone wants to take it out on Lane. Knowing nothing when it comes to what his parents did, people still will not accept that. After being taken advantage of by one of his "friends" has left Lane bruised, bloody and broken.

Derek learned after meeting Lane that you can't always judge someone based on their parents actions. Despite the anger that he had towards Lane's parents, when he looked at him, he saw the lost boy. Only trying to help Lane out, Derek hadn't expected to have feelings for Lane, but he will do his best to show Lane that not all types of love can leave you broken.

But when the evidence piles up against Lane, will the support that Derek has shown him be enough to pull him through the hard times?

When I started reading this book, there were several times that I put it down because I was so upset!!! I mean seriously, Lane's character made me almost cry several times throughout the whole book. The writing ability that the authors have, that made it so believable, touched me even after finishing the story.

One thing that I really enjoyed about the book, when it came to the situation between Lane and "the man he made the deal with" the information wasn't just poured on you in one drop. (Honestly I don't know if I would have been able to handle that!) The flashback scenes were done in a sense that it gave more to the story, instead of taking away from it. I also enjoyed watching Lane's journey from being broken, into becoming the man that he was at the end of the book.

Yes, there are parts of this book that are not for the weak of heart, but also, this book is more than an erotica novel. You can almost connect with the different characters, and there was such a wide variety of personalities in this book you can't help but connect with one or more of them. This book is more about the strength of a man, who is coming into his own.

I'm Glad I bought this!!!

I am very reluctant to buy books that I haven't been able to flip through to see if it is easy for ME to understand. I am just beginning to sew and none of the libraries I visited had this version so I couldn't borrow it. I rely heavily on reviews so I felt compelled to write one because all of them have helped me decide. I looked and looked and read and read all about this book. This is by far the BEST book for sewing that I have seen. Hands down. Very easy to follow and it is sectioned off by title; Stitches and Seams, Waistlines and belts, etc. There are projects for you to practice a certain area. Like in chapter 5: Waistlines and Belts, the project is a Skirt to practice a certain waistline. It has a very nice Fabric section which gives a quick overview of the fabrics and what types of project you might see made with it. It has a very comprehensive section on altering and fitting a pattern to YOUR size. I just got the book today, but I haven't been able to put it down. I am so looking forward to learning how to sew with this at my side. If you are on the fence, I think it is a worthwhile purchase and very worth the money spent. If you really want to learn how to sew, invest in your craft with a good reference book and buy this one. It will probably be the only one you will need! I hope this helps.

THE BEST SEWING REFERENCE BOOK!

I looked at many books before deciding on this one. It has way more photos and easy to understand directions than the others I looked through.

I mainly wanted a book to use for reference when doing things I don't commonly do and forget how. But, now that I have it I realize I'll use it for way more than just that. It shows many different methods for doing basically the same thing. Some ways for basic and easy, and some ways for a more professional detailed look. Gotta love that.

This hardcover book is very thick and heavy. It's definitely made to last! I do wish it had come spiral bound so it would lay flat while reading, although it is heavy enough that I don't have any trouble keeping it opened to read. It just takes up a bit more space than a spiral bound would have. But, I feel that it's usefulness way surpasses my preference for a spiral bound.

It covers many topics and shows many different ways to do a variety of collars, necklines, waistbands, hems, fastenings, seams, pockets, sleeves, tailoring, and even some quilting and smocking! Tons of information!

Because it is recommended at my school, I was already sure of my decision to purchase it. When it arrived, however, I was sort of blown away. More than I knew and anticipated to be. It is SO informational. I really look forward to using this book more and more. Along with the book How To Make Patters by Donald H. McCunn I purchased, I plan to use them both simultaneously to make patterns. For guys, if you are looking for a way to make patters because the market offers literally nothing of this generation (no matter your age), then purchase these books. They give you the basics and the rest is up to your imagination. Don't be afraid to experiment. It not only works for the seasoned seamstress (as my teachers have been teaching longer than.. well, for decades), but also for someone who is a beginner, like myself. It's explained in a "plain-English" way, so if someone who has no knowledge whatsoever were to read it, they would understand because Readers Digest makes it easy to understand. There are things that you may not also understand (very, very few- if any) , but don't let that stop you-- that's why Google was invented. It also tells you about different fabrics and what they are used for which is really helpful for beginners (like myself) who want to learn how to sew but don't know what fabrics work best for different garments. It's a bit heavy and wide, so you might need to lay it flat if you have a bookshelf as it will stick out (unless that's not an issue for you). I hope that's a good-enough review on it. I promise you won't be disappointed. If by chance you are, you can always return it.
