The third and final installment of the Black Brothers Trilogy starts out awesome and doesn’t let up until the very last second. Victoria (Tori) Raine has always done what is expected of her, right up to the moment she applied for the FBI. Drake Maddox has never done what is expected of him, right up to the moment he agreed to have a pretend girlfriend.

As a celebrated country singer, Drake Maddox (aka Drake Black) is a household name and used to a lot of attention. He is on the front of every magazine, he is the topic of all kinds of gossip, and women line up to share his bed. Drake rarely ever refuses a bed partner and if the rumors are to be believed, he is just like his brothers, Beckett and Griffin and likes to be in control of his women. Having a girlfriend has never really been on Drake’s agenda but woman have been disappearing from his concerts and the FBI has a plan.

When Tori is told she is to be Drake Maddox’s girlfriend in order to help catch a killer, she readily accepts the assignment then asks who Drake Maddox is. Her research is eye-opening, her first meeting with Drake is somewhat awkward, and their first “date” is seen by the public as friendly and far from hot. In private, the heat is definitely turned up but Tori realizes she is in way over her head with Drake. His reputation certainly precedes him and if she is going to convince the public she is really Drake’s girlfriend, she is going to need some instruction. Under the guise of it “being for the case,” Tori asks Drake to teach her how to be edgier, more like the girls he usually “dates.” Knowing an opportunity when he sees it, Drake agrees to teach Tori what it means to be edgier.

Teaching Tori to be edgier is not only exciting but entirely sensual and sexy and certainly no burden for Drake. With Tori’s agreement, Drake takes total control of their relationship from what Tori wears to the things she does both in public and private. Much to both Tori and Drake’s surprise, Tori is not only a willing participant but an enthusiastic one as well. While both are enjoying their time together and clearly convincing the public of their relationship status, they know they situation is temporary and meant to be nothing more than a show. As the deadline to catch the killer draws ever closer, Tori and Drake also become closer and neither are at all prepared for how the whole mess is going to shake out in the end.

The Bottom Line: It is no secret how much I love trilogies and the Black Brothers Trilogy is no exception. From beginning to end, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and was really sad to come to the end. Drake Maddox is quite the surprise and I liked him from the moment he was introduced in book two. Seriously? It’s kind of hard not to like him after that island scene. . . .but I digress. Tori is spunky and eager to learn but she is also searching for something more for her life. Drake is the perfect fit for Tori and once they actually lay all their cards on the table they are a very good team. The reveal of the big bad is not at all unexpected but getting to that moment is well worth it and I was glad to see the continuation of the theme/characters through all three books. Bush has created a group of characters and a plot line you are glad to see continue. Don’t get me wrong, each book focuses on one of the brothers exclusively but the other brothers (and their respective partners) play a vital role in that character’s book. It is clear, there is a great sense of respect, love, and loyalty among the Black brothers and that is a theme that is carried throughout the series as well. Bush has created an excellent series with solid, well-rounded characters and a plot line that is equal parts naughty and nice. I was quite thrilled to follow the Black brothers through three reads and would gladly do so again.

P.S. Though these books can be read as stand-alones, I highly recommend reading all three of them in order. There is so much crossing over and continuation of certain elements and characters that to read the trilogy out of order would create a far less enjoyable experience.

Shameless is off the Richter scale, steaming, piping, put the kids and the dog out HOT!!! Trust me when I tell you this. I like my books extra spicy and this one reminded me of this nuclear hell hot sauce my Grandmother used to keep for special occasions (true story, that’s actually a thing). I have to lead with this information because even though I enjoyed the overall story, the lasting impression this book leaves is that you need a fan and a glass of ice water.

Shameless is the third book in the Black Brothers Trilogy but you do not need to have read the other two books to read this one. How do I know that? I haven’t read the first two books (yet). I will give you this warning, I get the impression that some parts of the storyline carry over from book to book and if you’re like me and you start with this book first, it’s likely that some parts of Book one and two will be spoiled. Of course, take this warning with a grain of salt because like I said, I haven’t read the first two books. The plot of Shameless is pretty straight forward. Tori is an FBI agent assigned to fake a relationship with country singer Drake Maddox in order to draw out a stalker who goes after Drake’s love interest. Of course Tori is hot and Drake is HAWT and “fake” love in erotic romance novels is like fake calories in real life- there is no such thing. So it’s no surprise when Tori and Drake’s fake relationship starts teetering on real lust.

The main thing (other than the sex) that I like about this book is the dialogue between Tori and Drake and the building of their relationship. I hate to read and book where I have to keep asking myself what the main characters have in common and how the hell they seem to be in love, that’s not the situation here. Brynley has constructed a story that has enough real detail about the main characters that we can identify with them and their attraction to each other.

Another thing you will enjoy about this book is that it is well paced and the plot is constantly moving forward. I was interested in the underlying mystery from the first page to the last and I never had a moment of boredom. The fact that Drake is a singer and we get to see some of the lyrics to his songs adds interesting layers to the book that makes the experience more memorable.

I’m not a BDSM fan because so much of it post-FSOG has been cheesier than nachos and cheesy is not sexy. This book does include some light BDSM but I like the way it was done. The BDSM scenes were pretty mild as far as those go and they were definitely sexy and not too clich�.

The reason this book isn’t a five star review for me is because I’m easily distracted by factual discrepancies and Tori was like the worst FBI agent ever. Ok, yes, I have zero self control and probably would have been jumping Drake like a horny puppy from the introductions but I’m not a trained professional law enforcement person or whatever. I just hope the people assigned to keep us safe are not as easily seduced by their charges as Tori was.

I really like this author’s writing style and I’m excited to explore other works by her. I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful Black trilogy

This is the third and final installment in this series and boy was it an a-maz-ing three books. Each book centers on a continued story through out, but each book is also about each brother and finding love. The Black brothers are a trio of hot, alpha, dominant bad a$s men, who love hard and strong with each other, family and the strong feisty independent women they fall for. This is a very interesting and unigue story rolled into the best romantic suspense read I have found in a long time.
These three books have everything I enjoy about reading.
Romance- 5 stars
Superior story- 5 stars
Erotic sexy time- 5 + stars
Continued characters- 5stars
HEA- 5 stars
No cliffhanger just continuation of an amazing story of the Black family.

Like the Movie

I realize the movie was based on the book, but I really didn't think they would be so similar, after all the series that mdae this movie is widely known for throwing out the books plot and making up there own story. However I felt compared to Loving Evie and Diamond Girl, this movie from a book was pretty much on point. I say this because I only looked for the book because of the movie, and as old as this is most people lookng for a review probably come from having seen the movie.

The basic plot is that a model on the verge of becoming old and no longer a top model decides to check herself into rehab but is afraid she'll lose her status if she leaves, so she asks her sister to fill in for her. Her sister agrees, and ends up first fightng with then falling for her boss, who thinks hse's stealing fashion designs.

Ultimatly the movie was better for me then the book. I just didn't believe in the characters as much as I thought I would, and therefore didn;t believe in their romance. I was kind of surprised by the heroine as well, she was just so normal, I didn't see any way for her to grow, I had expected a more boxed in girl, who becomes more confident in herself, but really she didn't need to grow or change, she was fine as she was, as a reader that just isn't all that interesting. Also the end was as abrupt as the end of the movie, which I had hoped would have been better.

This was a typical jock who needs to pass a class to stay on the team and a nerd who gets roped into being his tutor. I've read a few other books by this author and I must say this one was just ok. It wasn't really as sexy or erotic as her other books. But if you like a nerdy guy turning the tables on a jerk of a jock ( in the closet) than this one you might enjoy.

Great book about an amazing movie

Fans of the late Brandon Lee and of the movie "The Crow", I highly recommend this book. The book describes in detail of the events before and during the filming of "The Crow", from the creation of the comic book "The Crow" by James O' Barr... to the start of production... to the tragic shooting death of Brandon Lee... to finishing the film without Lee using computer technology and stunt doubles. It also talks about the other people involved in the movie, (i.e. actors, actresses, director, producer, stunt coordinator, etc...). This book not only describes the events that took place during the filming process, but also has a short, but informative bio on Brandon Lee before he took on the role as Eric Draven. The most gripping part of the book is when the author, Bridget Baiss, describes the events leading up the the shooting death of Brandon Lee, until his death on the operating table. It was so thoroughly described that I felt I was actually there to witness it for myself, it sent chills down my spine as I read it. For those who want to get the whole story of this amazing movie, and the tragedy that happened because of it, this is the book to read.

Such a wonderful Book~!

I really enjoyed reading "The Crow -Story behind the film"...every chapter,every page,EVERY WORD was exciting to read on through this book.Perhaps because I am such a Brandon Lee fan and still 'til this day do I believe that The Crow was arguably his best work ever..and this book tells it ALL~!......from its origins as first starting out being a comic book,trying to make this gothic love story into a film,the struggles of making the movie,of course the hugest tragedy which took the life of the young star,the cause of his death and how the movie was finished without the late Brandon Lee......the best part about this book was how the author got so much information from different cast and crew members who were all once part of the film....this was the best part about the book since I was so curious to know how each and every person who was responsible in making this film felt about making it and how they reacted to that fateful nite of the shooting .....as well as how they or if they ever learned to cope with this difficult experience.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to every CROW/Brandon Lee fan or anyone who once saw this film and became interested in what exactly happened on the set to this promising actor who had such a promising future .......I have collected many Brandon Lee memorabilias in almost the past decade but I must say that this book is definitely the most treasured one I have since it closes the ending chapter to the person I admire so much.

To Find Out What Really Happened . . . .

As a longtime Crow fan, I was interested in finding out exactly what happened behind the scenes during the production of the film. Baiss' book does an excellent job of providing this information, through the use of quotes taken from several crew and cast members. My only criticism is how poorly the book was written. I am not sure who the editor is, but the book is riddled with grammatical and typographical errors to the point where I don't understand how it made it to publication. Her flow is also a little difficult to follow in places, although this may simply be a result of Baiss being a first-time writer. Also, most of the major individuals involved in the production of this film, including the director, would not speak with Baiss, so the account is mainly from the view of several cast and technical crew members. I would, however, recommend it for those interested in what really happened during production of "The Crow." I came away knowing more than I had before, even if I had trouble wading through all the typos.

ambitious but uneven

This is a big, sprawling book; I put off buying it for years b/c of the price but could never get very far in a library copy b/c it seemed like such an undertaking. It's not a book one could assign in a typical book-a-week grad school course. As academic reviewers have pointed out, Harvey is pulling together LOTS of different strands and theorists here--Leibniz, Haraway, Bourdieu, Whitehead, & many others. If you've read a lot of these folks before, Harvey has a lot to say, but if you haven't, this should definitely not be your introduction to Harvey's thought (I'd recommend Condition of Postmodernity, or maybe The New Imperialism). Some sections are fantastic - part I ch. 2 on Dialectics for example is a fantastically clear, lucid explanation of a dialectical approach. But it just keeps going, with a lot of material that might have been better published as separate critical articles on particular theorists, or relegated to footnotes, so that the overall argument gets diluted. All that said, it's a book that anyone working on space and place in the social sciences should read eventually, and one that offers lots of ideas for thinking about how to integrate or form alliances between various types of identity and locally-grounded politics on one hand, and a larger critique of neoliberal capitalism on the other. But I think Harvey's more recent books -- shorter, tighter and more topically focused -- while still theoretically and analytically brilliant -- probably reflect a welcome response to critics of this book (and if you're serious about the book, it's well worth reading the special issue of Antipode in 1998 devoted to it -- it's a work of such complexity that most readers will probably want some other opinions and a bit of guidance in making sense of it all).

very painful

The author seems to jump around subjects and I don't think his aim was clarity of explanation at all. I think his goal was to fit as many extra words and unrelated babbling as he could. The book was just way too much of everything and not at all focused. I don't know how else to explain this. It was a required read for a class and I would say that it was excruciatingly painful, hard to follow, and I got absolutely nothing for my time. I can't tell you a single thing that I got out of it.

Get the 10th Edition!

The 10th edition of this book is actually much better than the 11th (I bought both for my I/O PSY class). Chapters 9-13 are particularly insightful. I sold my 11th edition but will be keeping the 10th. The 10th edition is also the last edition written solely by Muchinsky, before his death last year. Sadly, the 11th edition deletes a lot of Muchinsky's personal insights. His insights about teams and teamwork from Chapter 9, in particular, can easily be applied to other "teams," such as families. A great book for any psychologist, not just I/O psychologists.

The information is useful but the style of writing is very very very dry. The text is dry in the sense that there are numerous instances where he could have used simpler ways to describe a concept but instead he opted for more bigger words and repetition. The colored bubbles with case info. are more helpful as they provide an insight into real life application. I had to read it for a class but every time I open the book to study I just felt dreaded.

Also, the book is printed on glossy paper and it's really difficult to read the text with all the shiny reflections.

Classic 1980s French Sci-fi

French sci-fi that reminds one of Orwell's 1984. The characters are developed enough to tell the story. The plot is based on a future wherein extremely low temperatures and ice cover much of the globe. Major factions fight political and military battles to gain controlling interest over the railways. The railways are the lifeblood of the corporate types and the only way to move supplies between areas. Adding to the complexity of the story line is the race of modified humans that have adapted to survive the extreme low temperatures.

This book sets up the scenario and walks us through one man's struggle to grasp what is going on and understand the battles for the weaponized rail-space and the true status of the modified humans.

Very 1980s French in its' world view. Those who enjoy European writing will find this book interesting. Those who haven't tried European sci-fi will find this a refreshing change.
