Even Problems Not Included.

"A Solution Manual, GREAT!", or so I thought. I must have missed the description that says that this book only contains the solutions to the odd-numbered problems. Wait a minute, doesn't the regular textbook already have the odd-numbered solutions in the back of the book? Yes, it does. So why buy the book? What you are really looking for is the Teacher's Solution Manual, which has solutions to all the problems.

Is this book identical to the solutions given in the back of the regular textbook? Not quite. The back of the regular textbook skips some multi-part problems. For example, a problem could be split up into 5 parts a, b, c, d, e, but the back of the book only has the solutions for a,d,e. Also the back of the book has a habit of saving space by just showing the answer without guidance to how that answer was derived. This solution manual has a little more info than the back of the book, as well as the answers to all subquestions a,b,c,d,e of odd-numbered problems.

If you really struggle with Discrete Math, this manual might come in handy. If you can follow along with the regular textbook just fine, then I don't think you'll get much from this manual except maybe some help on an occasional problem where the back of the regular textbook just doesn't show enough info. For me, the back of the regular textbook works just fine and I have yet to use this manual. It's up to you whether or not spending $20-$30 is worth having something that you may or may not use.

The one handy thing about this manual that I can think of is that flipping to the back of the regular textbook is cumbersome, and having this solution manual gives you a way to have a separate book open to the pages of interest instead of constantly having to flip back on fourth of the much thicker regular textbook.

Great help, but with a catch.

The book was great at explaining more than just the answer, but most of the work involved. Helped me to understand how to approach many of the problems. The catch is that there are only the odd answers in the book. This hit me as a surprise.

Put history into perspective for me

At last an accessible history of the world. Once I started to read this book I could not put it down. There are some less complimentary reviews but I feel they are a little harsh. Andrew Marr was able to put into context a whole raft of cultures and how they did or did not interact. I cannot count the number of times I thought to myself "ah, that is why this happened". It was as if lots of little lights came on and joined up a map of history.
The clarity of writing and the little side comments made this a very enjoyable and informative read. If history had been taught in a similar way when I was at school, I would have been a very different student.

I really enjoyed reading this book

This is my first non-academic world history read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Marr weaves together different countries, cultures and their leaders smoothly page after page, often with a unifying theme in mind. Sometimes one can catch a bit of fluffy rhetoric but this does not detract from the experience even if the reader is only trying to gain new knowledge. The book is easy to read yet filled with detail. Marr definitely leans towards writing about new cultures and peoples or towards existing history with new historical information. I felt the book to be a bit short even though it's over 500 pages; there was certainly a huge skipping of historical events but Marr himself addresses this in the beginning of the book as inevitable of anyone trying to tackle a subject so daunting as world history. But Marr (or his editor) got it right when he named the book simply "A" history of the world (not "The") because it is merely one of many world history books that should be read for anyone serious enough about understanding the subject.

World history book that actually covers the world, unlike other "world" history books that focus primarily on Europe and the US

I was trying to find a medium-length world history book that really covered the world's history. This isn't easy, as most tend to focus primarily on European history. This book had relatively few reviews on Amazon, so I decided to keep looking rather than buy this when I first saw it. I ended up looking on the UK Amazon website, thinking that I may find a book there that wasn't available in the US. On the UK website, this book had many reviews, and they were very high. Based on this, I downloaded to my Kindle from the US website. The book is engaging. It doesn't cover any period as much as I'd like it to, but this is expected of a medium-length book that covers 10,000 years of history. It does however provide enough history for each period to help the reader determine what s/he would like to read about in greater detail, and then buy the relevant book for that period.

This book is a comprehensive monograph on fluoropolymers, which are one of the fastest growing segment of polymeric materials. In general, it is well written and it covers the field very well. The editor himself and the authors he selected are known experts in their respective fields. It definitely is the first book on the subject dealing with practically all commercial and developmental fluoropolymers. It has the greatest value for someone already familiar with the science and technology of polymers in general and of fluoropolymers in particular.

This book is a great resource if you want to understand the mathematics and physics of polymers. I zeroed in on Teflon FEPs applications and found it to be the best source of info that exists anywhere. I wish there was more information on extrusion and rhealogy methods for polymers covered. Overall I am glad I bought the book, and it is a great addition to my engineering library.

Very Useful Textbook, But Overpriced

My husband needed this for College. He likes it (doesn't love it though). He says it covers the major points, is a very useful textbook and he has lots of stuff highlighted in it. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it is very expensive - pverpriced in our opinion, as most textbooks seem to be.

Great condition. Would not have purchased if I didn't need for a class, but it serves its purpose well. Aside from it being a little tedious, it's very interesting. One 178 word sentence had me quite confused, but I'm told most old philosophers wrote that way.

Great book....lousy spine

The content of this book is fantastic, though perhaps a little dated now. A word of warning, though: the book will begin to disintegrate after opening it up about 50 times. Whatever glue was used to seal the spine was low-grade. Once the contiguous, 10-page chunks of the book begin detaching themselves from the center, it's a big mess.

The book itself is good but when compared to the hardcover edition the poor quality of the photos is evident. Since I do not need to use these photos for my class it is not a major issue, but if you will be working directly from the book you might want to consider purchasing the hardcover.

This was a required book for a college class!

This book has all the detailed information that you would expect a college school book to have. But nothing more! It's completely black and white, NO COLOR PAGES! This is 2006 lets get with the program here folks. Also, it was copyrighted in 1992, so to truly be current it needs an update badly. But once again it does have all the basic information that you would need too learn about remote sensing.

Larry E. Dyer (Th.M., Dallas Theological Seminary; D.Min., Covenant Theological Seminary) has been a pastor for over twenty years. Excellent source

Dr. Dyer has done the church a service by publishing this fine little volume on baptism. He explains, in simple language, what baptism means and why the believer should be baptized. Along the way, he explains the mode of baptism and some helpful hints for both the one being baptized and the baptizer. This is an excellent book to hand to candidates for baptism to explain clearly this important doctrine.
For the more technical minded, the author deals with a number of issues that have divided the church:
1. He defends the immersion mode of baptism.
2. He rejects infant baptism, promoting only believer's baptism
3. He explains the true meaning of the major passages used to support baptismal regeneration.
My only disagreement with Dyer would be in his understanding of modern day Lutheran theology being in opposition with Martin Luther's view (p.33). Unfortunately, Luther, who did teach that salvation was on the basis of grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, never broke from infant baptism as a component of salvation. The contradiction lies with Luther himself, who believed so strongly in sola fide while still subscribing to baptismal regeneration (see Luther's Shorter Catechism), not with Luther and Lutheran theology.
Baptism, the Believer's First Obedience is an excellent tool that I will use on a regular basis with those interested in baptism.

A Helpful, Scriptural Book on Believer's Baptism

Books on infant baptism are common. Ones on the baptism of believers by immersion are harder to find. Dyer's book falls into the latter category. Those who have serious questions about what the Bible has to say about baptism will value Dyer's helpful book. Without becoming excessively technical, Dyer, a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, answers common questions about baptism in sufficient depth to satisfy most readers. He tackles different uses of the word "baptism" in the Bible, answers common objections to baptism, and has helpful and practical hints to offer those participating in a baptism. Readers will appreciate his willingness to discuss opposing views and to analyze some of the harder verses in the Bible that are related to the subject.

Baptism Important But Not Necessary?

Dr. Dyer's book on baptism is a good book, if you hold that baptism is a mere ceremony in the life of the believer. I found the book to be simple to read and Dr. Dyer deals with the mode, subjects, and purpose of baptism quite well.
My only problems with this book was Dr. Dyer's insistence that while baptism should be the believers first act of obedience to Christ, he never tells us why. He defends believers' baptism but then attacks baptismal regeneration by insisting that a believer need not be baptized to be saved yet if they truly are saved, writes Dyer, then they will be baptized. This is confusing to me since the NT knows nothing of an unbaptized Christian, which Dyer would agree with, but then he claims you can still be a Christian without baptism.
I do recommend this book but I do also recommend that you read this with your Bible open and ready to test all things by the inspired Scriptures (1 Thess. 5:21).
